has worked as an Art Director and Graphic Designer in the Memphis area. In his spare time, Rodney’s favorite creative outlet is painting and his favorite medium is oil. He paints mostly from photographs, his favorite subjects are animals, people, and whatever inspires him. Rodney is a member of the Portrait Society of America.
The primary intent of my work is to capture my subject on canvas in a representational way, not striving for an exact likeness but more of an interpretation. Whether it be animals, people, or landscapes, I enjoy the challenge and process of bringing life to a once blank canvas.
An important part of my creative process is finding the right subject. One that speaks to me and hopefully will to others. I find my subjects down rural country roads, grazing in fields along the highway, at zoos, or in totally unexpected places. As I am taking photographs, I begin to visualize my painting and how I want it to appear on canvas. Trying to achieve the right values, contrast, and color to bring my subject to life is both challenging and rewarding. It is a constant learning process.
Through my paintings, I try to convey my love and appreciation for some of God’s truly amazing creatures. And, when someone looks at my work, I hope that they too experience those same feelings.
